Bird Relinquishment - Surrendering Your Bird
At Parrot Palm Ranch we know that life changes like moving, health issues, a death in the family or other unexpected events – can make it impossible to keep your companion parrot. Letting go of a bird you’ve loved for years can be very emotional, and we’re here to support you through that process.
Most bird owners find comfort in knowing their feathered friend will be cared for in a safe and nurturing environment. At Parrot Palm Ranch, we aim to be a place where your bird can receive excellent lifelong care.
As a nonprofit organization, we welcome a donation when you relinquish your bird. These contributions are tax-deductible and help us provide proper care and shelter for your bird and to continue our work. A one time donation or automatic recurring monthly or yearly donations to help financially support your bird can be discussed and set up at the time of surrender.
Important Steps Before Surrendering
If your bird is sick or might have a contagious illness, please take it to an avian veterinarian. We do not accept sick birds. We have a responsibility for protecting our entire flock against illness.
We do not accept unscheduled drop-offs of animals. Our sanctuary is CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC for health and safety measures. Please use the contact form and provide your contact information and the details about the bird. We require a phone interview to discuss placement with the sanctuary, and if approved, need time to prepare for your bird’s arrival and will schedule a drop-off visit at that time.
- If approved for surrender, you will be required to complete a Relinquish/Surrender form stating that you are the legal owner/caretaker of the bird and have rights to relinquish/transfer ownership.
