About the Sanctuary
Parrot Palm Ranch is committed to providing a safe haven, including proper veterinary care, nutrition, socialization, physical and mental stimulation as well as a clean, spacious environment for exotic birds.
With exotic birds recorded to live over 100 years and many of them outliving their owners, The Bird Experience is a perfect solution to fulfill their needs.
Many people are drawn to their beauty and are not aware of the challenges of keeping a parrot. They tend to be needy in many ways which sometimes can create a challenge for many households. This includes such things as being very loud, messy, in need of attention, jealousy of certain family members which intern can very often create a neurotic, mean and unwanted bird.
We have found that many people seem to lose the interest not knowing these requirements and that it is a life-long commitment. Few community shelters and humane groups are equipped to handle big birds, which makes parrot sanctuaries even more important to a community. This is why The Bird Experience, is a great alternative to an unhappy bird..
We realize that those who invest in a bird have probably spent a lot of money to purchase them as well as adequate housing and accessories. The initial desire for some people is to get back a return on that investment. Before you place that advertis- ement, please consider this: your bird may end up being caught in a cycle of continuous instability, abuse or neglect creating that same unwanted and unhappy bird. Birds require a great deal of time, patience and understanding.
They are extremely intelligent and without attention and social interaction, they often develop psychological problems such as feather plucking and self-mutilation. Once these behaviors have started they cannot always be reversed. However we have found that our sanctuary has created many happy, rehabilitated birds that could eventually be placed into pre-approved loving homes.

James Krembs
Executive Director and principal caregiver
James has a passion for animals of all kinds, especially exotic birds. What started as a hobby has turned into a profession that keeps him intrigued to see what each day brings. “I deal with birds as if they are my children. Given the fact that they have been recorded to use 90% of their brain capacity makes them proportionately the smartest creature on the planet. I find that if I can relate to them as little people, I seem to have a better connection.”
James received a blue and gold macaw, Rainbow, from a friend in 2000. He decided to get her some company and before you knew it there were eggs. He decided to do more research on caring for birds and now has a ranch in Bunnell, Florida where he rescues and houses over 200 exotic birds of all varieties. What was a hobby has become a full time profession that James loves every minute of. “There is something special that happens when you can rescue a bird that is literally looking at an unfortunate existence and rehabilitate it to see a new life appear in this beautiful creature.”
